Being is enough reason to be, so be. I feel nowadays I am having to keep reminding myself of this saying, it’s an absolute rule that keeps me both figuratively and literally grounded to the earth.

I know on this site there is a lot of sadness, a lot of problem and for each about a dozen people who will attack that person for not being grateful for what they have. Look around they will say, “there are children starving, soldiers being driven mad fighting pointless wars, people have been beaten and raped by those they loved. Can’t you see how good you have it?”  I can almost imagine them now standing arms outstretched towards some miserable third world scene, ridiculing the crying girl at their feet. 

We can’t use the tragedies of others as an excuse to ignore those around us who need help. Yes other people have it worse, there is bound to always be someone out there who has it worse, so we can’t make that the requirements for our compassion. 

I am not denying that there isn’t such horribleness in the world. I am not saying to ignore the desolate and unfair world that exists just out of our collective visions. The improvised, the starving the unloved and the incapable all belong in our hearts. But so do those around us. Whatever issue people face, is real to them. A boring life can breed misfortune so that it never has to accept its mundane reality. 

The struggle is real, as cliché as someone’s problems may be it doesn’t make them any less significant. We are all still fighting, everyone has their own battles, everyone has gone through extraordinary hardship, let’s remember that. Everyone needs help, everyone needs a friend, a kind word or a tender hug let’s remember that.  

Your problems matter, you matter, you’re special.
